Arjun Mathur was born in London. He attended school at St. Columbas (New Delhi), St. Mary's (Mumbai) and The British School (New Delhi). He developed a love for acting while studying theatre as an A-Level subject. On completing his schooling, he chose not to attend college and to start training himself to pursue a career in films. He studied acting with Barry John and at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute in New York. But his real education was the experience he gained as an Assistant Director by working on prestigious films such as 'Rang De Basanti', 'The Rising - Mangal Pandey' and 'Bunty Aur Babli'. He was given his first break in films simultaneously by Mira Nair and Farhan Akhtar, both of whom cast him in their respective short films for the 'Aids Jaago' project. This was followed by impactful supporting parts in 'Luck By Chance' and 'My Name Is Khan'. He also played one of the protagonists in Raja Menon's 'Barah Aana' which was endorsed by Aamir Khan and received a lot of critical acclaim. His upcoming projects are Onir's 'I Am', a collective of topical short films in which he plays a male prostitute and 'My friend Pinto', a comedy produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Arjun is managing to impress directors, audiences and critics alike with his steadily growing body of work by opting for challenging parts and delivering powerful performances. In his short career so far, he has held his own while acting with powerhouses like Irrfan, Boman Irani, Shabana Azmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Vijay Raaz, Shah Rukh Khan and has already been directed by top directors Mira Nair, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. For someone without a family in Indian films, it's a dream beginning.
